Aspiring Archers Programme

Lough Cuan Bowmen run regular Aspiring Archers programmes.  Our programme is friendly and enjoyable and are designed to teach the basic skills of archery.

Currently our 2 courses between  September and December 2025 are both over subscribed. Unfortunately we will not be able to take any further names until January 2026

How much will it cost?

The cost is £50 per adult, £35 for an junior under the age of 18 and £35 for individuals with a disability. We currently accept payment by cheque, cash and bank transfer. The course has a maximum of 12 spaces.

Where is it held?

Between April and August  courses are held  on a Friday evening at Ards Rugby Club, Lansdowne Road, Newtownards. From September to March we move indoors and courses are held on a Friday evening  in Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex, Newtownards.

How long will it last?

Four weekly sessions, approximately 9 hours in total. We also hold a fast track course which is over a single weekend.  (Usually a Friday evening, and Saturday morning and  Sunday morning).

Do I need my own equipment?

No. All equipment is provided by Lough Cuan Bowmen.

What is involved?

What will I achieve?

Once the course is completed, all beginners will -

  • have an understanding of the basic skills of shooting;
  • know basic archery technique, safety and etiquette to the level required to join an archery club;
  • have the ability to shoot a recurve bow with reasonable confidence and skill;
  • have been introduced to other types of bows (traditional, longbow, compound, recurve and others);

When you complete the course you will receive a certificate providing proof that you have completed a Beginners’ Course and are safe to shoot in a club environment. This certificate can be used to join any archery club.
