Promoting, Developing and Practicing Archery in the North Down and Peninsula Region
As a club we have a number of indoor and outdoor venues in the North Down and Ards Peninsula, which allows us to promote, develop and practice Field, 3D and Target Archery
From September to May we hold our Club night at the Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing & Leisure Complex. The complex opened in January 2020 and provides excellent facilities for indoor shooting. We meet from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Members can shoot from 5-25 metres on a range of field and target faces and the occasional 3D.
The club night is a great opportunity for members to come together and enjoy an evenings shooting and a bit of craic. Members will take the opportunity to perfect their technique and practice for competitions, however, we also have themed evenings and competitions (serious and novelty) throughout the year.
From May to August we hold our Club night at the Ards Rugby Club. We meet on a Friday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. With access to 2 pitches members have the opportunity to shoot a wide range of distances on field and target bosses.
The club night at Ards provides the opportunity of members to practice the longer distances whether for field or target and to work on their field craft. Coaches are on hand to offer advice and guidance. The evening is as much about the social as it is about archery, so there is always a bit of craic.
Clandeboye Estate provides an excellent wooded environment for our field and 3D shoots. Our popular Icebreaker, Valentine and Halloween Shoots are held here and this year we have introduced the Lady Dufferin shoot, to acknowledge the support that the estate has given us over the years.
The enclosed wooded environment provides for a variety of shots and we are trying to maximise the potential of the course. We also hold regular field training and coaching sessions on site and French International archery David Jackson has facilitated a number of sessions for us.
In 2019 we hosted the All British Open Field Championships at Mount Stewart and we have continued to work with the estate to develop a field venue. Our Lady Rose and Lady Edith Shoots are hosted at Mount Stewart in September and November Respectively.
The woods situated adjacent to Forthill provides a venue predominantly under cover, with its long avenue of trees providing the opportunity for challenging distance shots.
Ballywalter Park, the home of Lord Dunleith, provides a wooded environment with the opportunity for enclosed and open shots for our field and 3D shoots. Traditionally this is where we hold our Ron Bell Memorial Shoot, often one of the most popular shoots on the shooting calendar.
We have 2 3D shoots at Ballywalter Park, the Abbey Shoot in March and the Colum Cille in June. The wooded environment provides a perfect setting with natural backstops for many to the targets.Always popular and enjoyable, they provide an alternative shooting opportunity for our members.
